There were rumors running around that Max Headroom was some kind of brainwashing delivery device but what was he selling? The new Coke? The old Pepsi? I never d-d-ddrank soda, so I didn’t give it much thought at the time. There was something about him that screamed autoerotic asphyxiation and wide ties.
#Eminem max headroom series
I didn’t catch the series when it first ran and only knew The Max Headroom Show, where the talking head veejayed music videos. Really not so distant, twenty minutes or so, and by setting its sights so short the series nailed the future closer than many more lauded attempts at artistic precognition. Shot in the ’80s, it was set in the not-so-distant future. NOTE: The part where Eminem allegedly stole starts from somewhere around 2:16.Max Headroom, wasn’t just the highest point Wayfarers reached in cyberpunk culture, it was a prescient look into the immediate gratification of the internet age. Eminem even references the song “Lookin Boy” multiple times in the second verse of “Rap God”. To be honest, certain parts of “Rap God” actually do sound like certain parts of “Lookin Boy”. But does “Rap God” really sound similar to “Lookin’ Boy”? “Rap Fraud” is the title of Hotstylz’s diss track against Eminem, just in case you’re wondering. The group later reportedly decided to take legal action against Eminem and his record label for using their song without seeking their permission.

Hotstylz responded by releasing an Eminem diss track in November 2013. According to them, to add insult to injury, Eminem didn’t credit them for the sample nor compensate them. Shortly after it was released, the hip hop group Hotstylz accused Eminem of sampling their 2008 song “Lookin’ Boy” in the song without their permission. “Rap God” was as popular as it was controversial. The title of that song is a play on Em’s “Rap God”.
